Quickly Getting Started with ANY Sitecore products
Entrée
It has been now couple of years that I've been working with Sitecore and yet, haven't slightly went near SXA to say the least.
I came accross couple of great repositories that helped me install Sitecore with SXA and other Sitecore Modules in the blink of an eye.
La Pièce de Résistance - Sitecore.HabitatHome.Utilities
Url: https://github.com/Sitecore/Sitecore.HabitatHome.Utilities
What it allows to do:
- Automatically install Sitecore XP
- Automatically install any different Sitecore flavor (Sitecore XC, JSS, SXA)
The git repository describes fully what needs to be done but to write things short, what you'll have to do is:
- Checkout the repository
- Copy your sitecore license to a specific repository
- Follow the installation instruction provided in the readme.
- Run and/or modify some scripts
- Enjoy a coffee while your environments are automatically set up.
Additional steps
- To get familiar with the Helix principle, to explore some Sitecore feature or to get some inspiration on the code side of things, I always use the Sitecore Habitat.
On a side note, the habitat solution on github is no longer maintained. Instead you will have some Sitecore Helix example available here
Le Dessert
I came accross those libraries a little bit earlier last year during my SXA/JSS experimentation and after reading Robbert Hock's blog . They came very handy when I had to install Sitecore multiple times and wanted to install everything I needed using powershell commands.
To be honest, I have a crush on the automatic Sitecore Commerce Installation!!! It is until this day only available for Sitecore 9.1.1 but, if you want to check it out; Click here
Definitely a worthwhile discovery!
